About

This is the website for FSEM 100E3, "A Video Game Canon", a First-Year Seminar at the University of Mary Washington led by Dr. Zach Whalen.

The course is premised on the notion of a canon for videogames, and it takes as its starting point a list of 10 games proposed for archiving by the Library of Congress. By way of investigating the cultural role of canons, the participants in this seminar will research video game history, and ultimately propose a new list of 10 games worthy of archival preservation.
