Is This Kid Serious?!?!

Dec 2 2009

Recently I came across this youtube video. It starts off with a little kid with braces video-taping himself and explaining the situation: his mother just cancelled his older brother, Steven's World of Warcraft account and he is not taking it so well. The younger brother conceals the camera in Steven's room so that it can capture the freak-out first hand. The results are absolutely unbelievable. Check out the video for yourself:

After watching this video, I was dumbfounded by how any human-being could be so obsessed over a video game that the loss of such a thing would yield such intense (to say the least) results. Now, I'll be honest. I've never played games like Halo, Call of Duty, or World of Warcraft. My video game enjoyment has been limited to games like Mario Cart, Tetris, Pacman, and the occasional Grand Theft Auto. So, because of my limited experience with this revolutionary new form of video games, it is very hard for me to understand how this kid, Steven, could act so absurdly due to the loss of a GAME!? I've heard of other instances of WoW-obsessed individuals spending hour after hour in front of their computers, but honestly....is this kid serious?!?!

In addition to this video, I found another one of the same kid, Steven. This one, however, takes place BEFORE his mom cancels his account. Once again, I just don't understand.

Gamers are weird

My girlfriend sent me the first video awhile ago, and the sad thing is I know people who are just hooked to games. Me and a good friend of mine came to blows in middle school because he was so hooked into GTF VIce City that he couldn't say three sentences without talking about the game. I have another friend now, who did cry when he ran out of WOW play time (apparently you have to buy it several hours at a time, and he was broke), and while he didn't take off his pants and beat himself in the head with a tv remote, it is the only time I have seen that kid cry. It seems to be that some poele get so obbsessed witht hese games that it becomes more of a reality to them than real life, probably because it is easier and has less negative consequences.
If you dont believe me try logging onto a free version of WOW called Runescape, and try to ask someone how much they play online, and why. I did it last year and kept pissing people off.
